My NSF phase is coming to an end... and frankly speaking... I'm actually not too sure of what is going to become of my life after this... Anyway, (As if quite appropriately) went to watch Jarhead on Saturday. The story of US Marine Sniper Tony Swofford (Jake Gyllenhaal)... his life in the Marines and during (and after) the Persian Gulf War. Interesting movie I should say. Pretty unique for a War movie. ie. Not your typical war movie. In fact, this story about waiting doesn't see much of war actions. Like Swofford said, "4 days, 4 hours, 1 minute, that was my war" and he did not have the chance to kill even 1 or should I say, his war was not really a war. The anti-war message is quite obvious and war being meaningless seems to be reiterated a few times. There are several scenes that were meant to create ironies in themselves and I should say, spendidly done. This is a war film that actually shows u the lives of the personnel involved as well and instead of glory, we see how they seem to be withdrawn from real life and stuck in the past, during the war. Sad. The pace of the movie is fast and light on the whole but the subtle underlying deapth is impossible to ignore. Anyway Jake Gyllenhaal gave a sensitive and emotional performance and together with a strong supporting cast, this highly personal war flick is something that's worth catching.
Wow... Am i turning my blog into a movie review blog. hahaha.
